The cacophony of modern life is increasingly overwhelming and the information age becoming too much. We're bombarded daily with an onslaught of things that we're told we should care about. We blame the industry for this... It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates - things were pretty much done. But clearly all that's changed.

American Brewing Company and American Craft Beer. ABC and ACB. Not just alphabet soup, but a collaborative unit. It was only a matter of time before we did something together; and when we did, it was beautiful.

For only the second time in the four years that we've been publishing, we've an addition to Newbies that we can humbly say we were part of. Last summer, we were blown away when American Brewing reached out to us and invited to do a collaboration with them. Clearly they'd gotten us mixed up with somebody else - but we jumped at the opportunity anyway.

So there's only one beer in this week's newbies but we're pretty damned excited about it....

With our headquarters in Washington DC and the bulk of our correspondents found near America's top producing craft beer regions on the coasts, it only makes sense for us to start a new series giving all the states their due, featuring breweries large and small, plus the histories behind them.

We receive a lot of books here at the American Craft Beer offices. Maybe it's because we cover the craft beer lifestyle from a different perspective- that we just don't just write about the beers we're drinking - that we write about all the things we talk about while we're drinking. But whatever the reasons publishers have noticed our unique audience and send us all kinds of books to review.
