THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITS

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates – things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves

, THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITSAn All American Collaboration Release Celebration Tomorrow! (Edmonds, WA) – We will be celebrating our collaboration with American Brewing Company tomorrow night, (Oct 20th) at American’s tap room. At 6pm sharp, we’ll be debuting our collective creation, Red Blooded American, an Imperial Red Ale that we dreamed up together.  And we expect we’ll be raging all night, so join us.

Widmer Brother? (Portland, OR) – We’re not sure if they’ll be changing their name, but Widmer Brothers did announce late last week, that one of the founding brothers, Kurt Widmer, would be stepping down from his position as Chairman of the Board for the Craft Beer Alliance and retiring at the end of this year.

Words To Drink By (Los Angeles, CA) – ““Generosity is its own form of power.”

Bob Lefsetz – Music Analyst & Writer

, THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER – QUICK HITSACB Goes LoCo (Loudoun County VA) – LoCo is a nickname for Loudoun County, a scenic collection of small towns, rolling hills and mountain vistas just northwest of Washington, DC. For years it’s been known for its artisan wineries – and now it’s becoming the “go-to” destination for whole a new generation of rural craft breweries that are shaking things up in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Those of you who follow us via Twitter and Facebook know that we were drinking our way across Loudon last weekend – and the brewers we met (and the things that they’re doing) absolutely blew us away. Over the next two weeks we’ll be introducing you to the LoCo Ale Trail and to some exciting new players in the brewing biz – stay tuned!

Good News & Bad News On Beer And Women (Sweden) – A study released by the University of Gothenburg has found both good news and bad news for women who drink alcohol weekly. The good news is that women who drink a couple of glasses of beer a week will cut their heart attack risk by a third (Yes!). The bad news is that study found that women who drink more than two servings of spirits a month had an almost 50 percent greater risk of cancer (yikes!).
