The first time we came to Oregon, determined to plant our flag in the fair City of Roses, we decided to eat lunch at the Deschutes Pub in the Pearl District. A gorgeous space furnished with the intent of fusing the comfort and hominess of Bend with the modernity of the big city, we fell in love with the food, the beer and the vibe. 4 years later, on a whim, I ventured to the mecca of Oregon brewing for the first time to revel in Bend's biggest success story, the Deschutes Brewery.

This morning the two biggest brewers in world agreed to become one company...We'd like to say we're surprised, but we're not. 

The Brooklyn Brewery Mash tour touched down in DC last week and it was a very cool thing. Billed as America's largest traveling food and arts festival, the Mash is a beer-fueled week-long celebration of cutting-edge music, street-savvy art, industry discussions, artisan food - and of course, serious beer. Sponsored annually by The Brooklyn Brewery, this roving festival is a brilliant exercise in entertainment and marketing.

We blame the industry for this... It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates - things were pretty much done. But clearly all that's changed.
