We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could easily coast through the weekend. But clearly all that’s changed. So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourself.

, QUICK HITS – BREWDOG FOUNDERS TAKE ON THE KING AND MORE!BrewDog Founders Take On The Elvis Presley Estate (Ellon, Scotland) – Remember when the craft beer biz had a sense of humor, some barroom swagger and attitude? Well, BrewDog’s punkish cofounders (formally James Watt & Martin Dickie) certainly do – and they recently took on the Elvis Presley estate as only they could.

It all started with a copyright infringement notice sent to the Scottish brewers, notifying them that they had a legal problem with BrewDog named beer Elvis Juice – and that if they didn’t “cease and desist” immediately, the estate would be taking legal action.

Point / Counterpoint – Fueled on their love for the beer and its name, the troublesome Scotsmen countered by legally changing both their first names to Elvis. That’s right BrewDog’s founders are now officially named Elvis Watt and Elvis Dickie – and they’re now suggesting that Elvis Presley Enterprises would be better served taking on Anheuser-Busch, who’ve questionably branded themselves as “The King Of Beers.”

Words To Drink By (Ellon, Scotland) – “We are where we are today because of an unshakeable belief in ourselves, our mission and our beer.”

More Election Week Craft Beer News (Portland, ME) – Another winner in last week’s elections comes from the craft beer community – which is reason enough for a toast. A soon to be very busy woman, Heather Sanborn, currently the co-owner of Rising Tide Brewing and also the president of the Maine Brewers Guild will now represent the city’s District 43 in the Maine House of Representatives.

, QUICK HITS – BREWDOG FOUNDERS TAKE ON THE KING AND MORE!Trippy Music To Drink By (Boston / Somerville, MA) –The Lights Out, a self-described “music and light project” and Aeronaut Brewing have collaborated to create what they describe as a sci-fi album and adventure beer that’s brewed for drinking along with the music. The T.R.I.P. beer is 7.5% ABV India Pale Ale with a label that has directions to help you to obtain the T.R.I.P. album, by taking an action on social media.
