Beer Comes To Houston’s Rescue

beer, Beer Comes To Houston’s RescueOne of the worst natural disasters in American history Hurricane Harvey is also bringing out the best in people and organizations. And that includes America’s brewing community who stepped in to provide comfort and aid where they could.

On Tuesday we reported that AB InBev was doing a good thing for Texas and Louisiana… That they’d   stopped brewing beer at their Cartersville, Georgia brewery so they could concentrate 100% of their efforts on canning clean water that was so desperately needed.

Tapping into their extensive distribution arm, AB InBev harnessed an enormous network of more than 400 distributors that shipped 155,000 cans of water to various locations.

MillerCoors also came to the rescue, shipping a total of 50,000 cans of drinking water from its Shenandoah, Virginia, brewery down to its Texas facility where for the Red Cross was organized to distribute it.

Houston’s Saint Arnold Brewing also stepped up and opened their door as to serve as a donation center that collected much need necessities to be distributed as necessary throughout the city.

Karbach Brewing also jumped into help Houston’s community. And not only has the brewery donated $40 thousand to aid four regional charities with their disaster efforts…They’ve also opened up their brewing compound as collection center for much needed household item and if you come by this weekend with useful donations the first beer’s on them.

Oskar Blues’ Can’d Aid Foundation tweeted out that they “we’re working to can & ship water as fast as we can.”

And on Friday we learned that Spoetzl Brewery, home to Shiner Bock, had contributed $500,000 to several organizations throughout Texas to support Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The $500,000 contribution was diversified among nine different nonprofits, organizations like American Red Cross, Greater Houston Community Foundation United Way and Team Rubicon, which supports emergency response teams comprised of first responders and veterans.

So yes, disasters like Hurricane Harvey are sobering…but they can also bring out the best in individuals as well as in organizations…like these American breweries that didn’t wait to be asked.
