Today has been designated as Barrel-Aged Beer Day and we’ve been struggling to muster convincing enthusiasm. Hey, we like barrel-aged beers as much as anyone. But still…an official day celebrating it…really?
And don’t you think that we’ve finally reached ‘official beer day” overkill? Can we admit that this whole beer day thing has just gotten stupid?
Can we PLEASE get honest and call these special beer days for what they essentially are, socially endorsed marketing opportunities….And Barrel-Aged Beer Day were looking at you.
And yes you should point your finger our way… After all, didn’t we just waste your time hyping National Drink Beer Day?
You’re right…We’re as guilty as anyone, having already shamelessly promoted questionable ‘beer days’ like International Beer Day, National Lager Day, International Gruit Day, National Beer Day, and even National Bock Beer Day!
And now we learn that Friday, October 6th has been designated a Barrel-Aged Beer Day, a celebration so marginal that it could only muster a Facebook page, and a boring one at that.
Come to think about it, the best thing about Barrel-Aged Beer Day is that it seems to have the total support of The Bruery and Bruery Terreux, both wonderful brewing operations and experts in barrel-aging…
And actually, we’d be more open to celebrating National The Bruery Day than this faux pseudo-holiday…just sayin.’
So celebrate today if you want …after all Barrel-Aged Beer Day is as a good a reason to start drinking early as any.
But while you’re drinking, ask yourself this…
Aren’t all this beer days beginning to ring hollow? Can we agree that enough is enough?
And isn’t National Rehab Day increasingly making more sense?
