American Craft Beer Reluctantly Celebrates International Beer Day

beer, American Craft Beer Reluctantly Celebrates International Beer Day

Can we admit that this whole special beer day thing has gotten out of hand?

And can we be honest and call these branded beer days for what they are nowadays, nothing more than socially endorsed marketing opportunities….And International Beer Day, we’re looking at you.

And yes you can call bullshit on us here at ACB, after all weren’t we just hyping IPA Day?

It’s true…we’re as guilty as anyone out there (maybe worse) having shamelessly promoted questionable “beer days” like International Gruit Day, National Lager Day, National Beer Day, and even National Bock Beer Day!

And now we find that today has been designated ‘International Beer Day’ (IBD) which is an anachronism that’s concerning close to IBS (you look that up).

First celebrated in 2008 (who knew?), International Beer Day takes place annually on the first Friday in August.

And according to the IBD site (yep, they’ve a site) its purpose is as simplistic as it is all-encompassing – to celebrate every beer (and its professionals) in every country and on the planet.

Okay, we can begrudgingly do that…International Beer Day is as a good a reason as any to start drinking early.

But still aren’t all these beer days beginning to ring hollow…haven’t we celebrated enough of them?

Maybe it’s time for National Rehab Day….just sayin’.
