We blame the industry for this... It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates -things were pretty much done. But clearly all that's changed.

So here's some of what's happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves.

Inspired by my colleague to the south, Portland correspondent Warren Willis, I took on the task of trying (or at least trying to try) some of the Washington award winners from the recent World Beer Cup, held by the Brewer's Association in Boulder, Colorado.

A couple weeks ago, almost 300 awards were presented to breweries from around the globe at the World Beer Cup held in Denver, CO. Of those, 20 were given to breweries from the Chicagoland area (within three hours driving distance from Chicago), further solidifying this region as not only one of the fastest growing, but also as a hotbed for some of the world's best beers.
