BrewDog’s #PunkAGM, the brewer’s annual general meeting that is one part business and another part beer and music festival, has been cancelled….yet another victim of the pandemic that is fast changing the world.
Here’s the deal…
On March 17 (ironically St Patrick’s Day), Aberdeen, Scotland headquartered BrewDog announced the cancellation of its biggest event, an event they call #PunkAGM, an annual gathering of its Equity Punk shareholders, who are the backbone of the now global brewer’s company.
Just as with the Brewer’s Association’s decision to pull the plug on its Craft Brewers Conference, which had been scheduled for San Antonio, Texas on March 29, BrewDog’s cancellation over in the UK, is hardly surprising given the growing pandemic now wreaking havoc on the world.
But in the announcement detailed below, the company appears to leave open the possibility that they might reschedule the annual meeting/party for later in 2020, depending on how things play out….
#PunkAGM is the highlight of our year. Our annual celebration sees thousands of you visit our backyard to share in our beers, our progress and all-round good times. You guys come first, alongside our amazing crew.
So with the recent Government guidance to limit the spread of Covid-19, we are sadly postponing our 2020 #PunkAGM, set to take place on the 11th of April. To say we are disappointed is a huge understatement, but it was the only option available to us.
We are currently working through the next steps and ask that you bear with our teams during this time. You can support them in person as our bars are currently open and ready for business. If you can’t get to one of our bars, or need to stock up on craft beer, our online shop is fully stocked and ready to ship.
2020 has started in as turbulent a way as we could imagine. But we’ll all get through it. Thanks to each and every one of our staff, suppliers, guests and partners who have been involved in the planning for our biggest event of the year.
Most of all we’d like to thank all our Equity Punks for their patience and support during this time. We are committed to keeping everyone updated as we progress.
Our hope is that we will still get the opportunity to host an amazing AGM for our Equity Punks in the near future.
With pandemic fears escalating by the hour it’s becoming clear that Covid-19 will elicit a significant worldwide economic and personal toll.
Unfortunately lives and livelihoods will be lost well beyond the brewing industry, and we can only hope that it all passes soon.
Stay safe everybody…this thing is no joke.
