Allagash Brewing has always managed their growth carefully, so news of a new tasting room in Scarborough, ME speaks volumes at to the health of the Portland-based brewer.

The future space, which is slated to open in 2024 will be located within The Downs, Southern Maine’s new mixed-use development, located right off I-95—a 15-minute drive from the brewery.

“Portland has been and will always be our home. It’s where we brew all of the beer that made us what we are today, where we employ a team of over 140 people, and that’s not changing,” said Rob Tod, Founder of Allagash. “Our core goal at Allagash has been to give people new experiences and create community through beer, and this future space in Scarborough will achieve that and so much more.”

Allagash’s core production will remain at its brewery in Portland, but the tasting room currently-based on that campus will move to the 7-acre site in Scarborough, Maine when that facility opens.

According to Allagash its current tasting room is open for business and will be for the next two years…

“We’re not moving any of our brewing or packaging operations away from the brewery in Portland. Our current tasting room area is going to stay open for at least until our space in Scarborough is complete. So nothing about our current tasting room is going to change until, at earliest, 2024. You’ll still be able to stop by our brewery, enjoy a variety of fresh beers, grab a lobster roll, and bring some beer home.”

“But we’re excited. Very, very excited. We’re in the process of planning something big for people who love enjoying our beer here in Maine.”

The new Allagash tasting room will serve to anchor the Downs, which features residential, commercial and recreational components. The Downs, a progressive mixed-use, live-work-play community, will also be preserving 200 acres of greenspace and developing 10 miles of recreational trails that connect the entire area.

“Our expanded presence at The Downs is a continuation of our measured and sustainable growth, and directly in line with our B Corp values dedicated to serving our community and our employees,” added Tod. “This is a great opportunity to continue to evolve with new ideas and initiatives in a way that is uniquely us.”
