The employee owned Modern Times Beer has been on an expansion tear lately. Headquartered in San Diego the brewing company is opening new hubs all over the West Coast.
Here’s the deal….
Belmont Fermentorium
In January Modern Times Beer bravely took their brand to Beervana and opened a Portland, Oregon outpost under the Belmont Fermentorium banner.
In a blog posting Modern Times CEO and founder Jacob McKean explained the company’s decision to move up the coast and what had led to a lease agreement with founder of The Commons Brewery, Mike Wright, who owns the 10,000 sq. ft. site where the current operation is located.
The Dankness Dojo
Explained as a tasting room when it was first announced at the end of 2016, Modern Times’ designer venue, located in an historic space in downtown Los Angeles expanded its vision into a meatless eatery (with serious beer of course).
The Dankness Dojo features a full menu of boundary-pushing vegan cuisine; over 30 taps of our delicious beer, Modern Times gear, coffee, and beer to-go; and a cafe offering the Full-Spectrum Modern Times Coffee Experience.
The Far West Lounge
Located up Highway 101 in Encinitas is Modern Times North County coastal beer and food emporium, The Far West Lounge is hip retro-chic setting, where quirky macramé touches meet stadium seating.
Like The Dankness Dojo, the Far West Lounge’s menu is meatless. But with a 34-tap bar that will pour Modern Times Beer from all of its brewery locations, it’s happily not beer-less.
Future Modern Times California Locations
According to a company blog post the intriguingly name Modern Times Academy of Recreational Science is in the works for Santa Barbara. The new restaurant complex will include an indoor bar and table seating, a gear shop with a vast assortment of merchandise and to-go beers, and a gorgeous 2,500-square-foot outdoor area with additional dining and bar space.
Modern Times Leisuretown complex is still in the works for Anaheim, and once completed will feature a sprawling 31,927 square ft. funky/sour brewing facility housed in a spectacular wooden warehouse, a designer café & restaurant lodged in an historic craftsman home, a SWIMMING POOL complete with a poolside bar, inflatable toys and a movie screen!
And Eater SF is reporting that the Bay Area will be soon be home to another Modern Times location “in Oakland’s Uptown neighborhood just a couple of blocks from Drake’s Dealership.
