The Empire State Breaks All-Time Brewery Record! (Albany, NY) – Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that New York State is now home to 400 breweries, a new record that surpassing the previous high of 393 breweries set in 1876. New York’s brewing history can be traced back to Colonial America. The first commercial brewery opened in Manhattan in 1632, after settlers quickly realized the state’s climate was ideal for growing hops and barley and things escalated from there.

By the close of the 19th century, developments in pasteurization, refrigeration, rail transport and bottling shifted New York’s Brewing industry from small-scale production for local consumption to an industry dominated by enormous breweries, all of which came crashing to end  with the enactment of the Prohibition in 1920.

Modern Times Far West Lounge, which is expected to open this summer, will offer a plant-based menu in Encinitas that will similar to The Dankness Dojo, Modern Times Beer’s vegan restaurant in LA.
