This Feminist Craft Beer Doesn’t Screw Around

And with a name as provocative as “Fuck the Patriarchy” how could it?

In fact this Spanish craft beer is being ordered in bars far beyond Madrid. It’s spreading to beer capitals in Germany, England, and Belgium.

Fuck the Patriarchy was created by two Spanish gypsy she-brewers, Ainara Cano Echeberría and Jes Matthews who brew under the Cervecera Libre banner.

In 2014 the two started brewing beers together and even though they still can’t quit their day jobs (Echeberría works as an archaeologist and Matthews as a translator to make ends meet,) their beer buzz is growing.

Fuck the Patriarchy is a 6.5% ABV American IPA. And in spite of its uber-small batch production has made its way well beyond Madrid. It’s been found all over Europe as well as across the Atlantic in far flung locations like Ecuador and Chile…, This Feminist Craft Beer Doesn’t Screw Around

According to OZY (who broke this story) Fuck the Patriarchy is more than a beer with an indelible name, that you can enjoy while “sticking it to the man.’ It’s a serious IPA with a feminist mandate.

But Echeberría explained to the publication that even though they continue to get orders from all around the world…”most of the requests come from small bars that only want a box or two, which makes it financially prohibitive to export outside of Europe.”

And Cervecera Libre’s progressive message is not limited to Fuck the Patriarchy…

Another popular beer of theirs is Cuatro Perras (Four Bitches), a Russian imperial stout whose label features a picture of feminist icon Emma Goldman.
