We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates – things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.
So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourself.
Dick Cantwell To Keynote At The New England Brew Summit (Portland, ME) – The Maine Brewers’ Guild has announced that our friend, Dick Cantwell, the co-founder of Elysian Brewing and current Brewers Association Quality Ambassador, will be the keynote speaker at the New England Craft Brew Summit on April 1st. Cantwell will be joined by a multitude of brewing “heavies” at the tnaugural conference, designed to showcase and discuss, both the technical and business aspects of our evolving industry.
DIY Dog (Aberdeen, Scotland) – BrewDog recently announced that they’d be making their back catalog of 215 beers available to their homebrewing fans – and you can download the PDF by going here. Very cool gentlemen!
Words To Drink By (Escondido, CA) – “Stone Brewing will never sell out. Stone Brewing is sacrosanct. We’re not interested in participating in a cash grab.”
Greg Koch / Co-Founder Stone Brewing
Worst Kept Secret Ever! (Kent, WA) – Airways Brewing has “officially” announced what so many Sky Hag fans have known for some time now – that they have started to build a new brewery which they hope to complete in the spring. The new 9,000 square foot Kent, Washington location will replace the original brewery and tap room and allow for up to a fourfold increase in production, as well as an increase in tap room seating capacity.
New Belgium Gets Their Man (Ft Collins, CO) – He’s a friend of ours, and will be a terrific addition to New Belgium’s executive leadership team. Ruairi Twomey is now the company’s new VP of Marketing and he’s a great “get.” Ruairi has held leadership positions in the beer biz all over the world, most recently in New York as Vice President of Marketing for Diageo Guinness USA.
Baying Hound Closes (Rockville, MD) – After five and a half years in action, Baying Hound Aleworks, Montgomery County’s first ever production brewery, has announced that they will be closing its doors on March 26th.
