The 2026 Brewers Cup of California: This Year’s Big Winners

California is home to some of the best craft brewers in the country, so the Brewers Cup of California competition is about picking the best of the best.

And we’ve all this year’s big winners for you!

As the largest craft beer competition in the state (and one of the biggest in the U.S.), winning here is a massive achievement. Given that the Golden State is one of the nation’s most vital brewing centers, a win in this competition is a very big deal.

Hosted by the Sacramento Area Brewers Guild—with a helping hand from several regional guilds and sponsors like Craftmaster Stainless, John I. Haas, Inc., and Berkeley Yeast—the 2026 event saw a record-breaking 1,323 entries from 203 independent breweries. A panel of over 60 expert judges spent the week narrowing down the field, eventually awarding Gold, Silver, and Bronze across 73 different style categories.

The Los Angeles County Brewers Guild took home the “Guild of the Year” title, an award given to the guild whose members collectively earned the most medals.

The coveted “Best of Show” (presented by Berkeley Yeast) went to Morgan Territory Brewing out of Tracy, California, for their German-Style Heller Bock, “Lock’d, Bock’d And Ready To Rock.” It was a massive night for the Morgan Territory team; they also secured the “Brewery of the Year” award. If that sounds familiar, it’s because they’re becoming a dynasty—having previously taken the top spot in 2023 and 2025.

The competition also took a moment to honor a legend, naming Mark Ruedrich, Co-Founder of North Coast Brewing Company, as the 2026 Craft Beer Pioneer. It’s a well-deserved nod to someone who has spent decades shaping the state’s beer culture.

“At its core, the Brewers Cup is a celebration by independent craft breweries, for independent craft breweries,” said David Weiss, President of the Sacramento Area Brewers Guild. “Their creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality is what this competition is really about.”
