Stone Brewing is the 9th largest craft brewer in the US with breweries in Southern California and Richmond, Virginia. And now their East Coast operation is getting a major upgrade that will make for a better visitor experience.

On March 2, the Escondido, California headquartered craft brewer announced a major expansion “within its East Coast operation that will elevate the destination brewery experience and allow for increased production of its internationally distributed beers.”

This week, Stone’s Richmond, VA brewery will receive four new tanks, increasing the brewery’s production capacity from 150,000 barrels to 200,000 barrels. As Stone builds out new points of distribution and expands its beer innovations, increased capacity means increased brewing flexibility.

Stone’s Richmond, Virginia brewery services nearly all states east of the Rockies and much of Stone’s international distribution, including all of Europe, so this upgrade, which affords even greater flexibility and distribution reach, is important to the company.

In addition to the massive 1,000-barrel tanks, Stone is also planning to install a highly anticipated 10-barrel pilot system which  ill allow brewers will flex their creativity adding to Stone’s innovation pipeline.

For visitors to Stone Brewing – Richmond, that means more fresh offerings unique to RVA, which is a powerful draw for any destination brewery. Stone’s new pilot system is expected to turn out local one-off creations as early as May 2022, so this small batch experimental brewery will be up and running soon.

But that’s not all…

Earlier this year, Stone added its ‘Live Buena’ themed food trailer to the Stone Brewing Tap Room in Richmond serving San Diego-inspired food in a nod to Stone’s flagship location just north of the US-Mexico border.

“Richmond is home to Stone and continues to support our growth in a really meaningful way,” stated Maria Stipp, Stone Brewing CEO. We’ll continue to invest in our facility, the community and our talented team. I can’t wait to see that pilot system in action and what our awesome brewers have in store for us.”
