Independence Day is approaching. And American craft brewers are addressing the holiday with smart new beer offerings you’re gonna want to have around.
Hippie High Ways (Venice, CA) – Firestone Walker’s experimental small-batch brewing facility in SoCal, The Propagator, has a juicy new limited release that was born of a friendship between Firestone Walker Brewmaster Matt Brynildson and Max Montgomery, owner and head brewer at There Does Not Exist, a cutting-edge brewery in San Luis Obispo.
Max who began his professional career working with Matt at Firestone Walker before setting off on his own, teamed up with him down in Venice in a mutual quest to create a uniquely drinkable hazy IPA. Crafted with massive amounts of malted oats which adds a whole new dimension to the beers richness and texture, Firestone Propagator Series Hippie Highway is a 7.5% ABV Hazy Oat IPA that’s layered with Strata, Talus Riwaka and Nelson hops for extra dankness.
Workout Beer (Vista, CA & Nampa, ID) – Mother Earth Brew’s newest release marks the halfway point of its rotating Hazy IPA Series for 2021 and comes with a dazzling new label featuring the acrylic work of San Diego-based abstract artist, Michael Carini. Brewed to give your cerebral cortex a proper workout, Mother Earth Cognitive Aerobic is a 7.2% ABV juice-bomb with tropical fruit aromatics and navel orange, lemon peel and ripe melon tones.
“With a 50/50 mix of New Zealand and PNW hops, we were able to capture some of the fruitier and juicier qualities and integrate them with some of the well-known attributes of old school IPA hops,” said Chris Baker, Director of Brewing Ops at Mother Earth. “The combination leads to a really even palate from front to back without any use of lactose to achieve body and palate fullness.”
4th of July Beer (Bend, OR) – Independence Day is a pilsner holiday and 10 Barrel Brewing makes a great one. Crafted with proud Noble hops and an instinct for tradition, 10 Barrel Pilsner is a complex 5% ABV German-Style Lager that absolutely nails it.
