We were initially cynical at American Craft Beer as to the actual resilience of the low- and no-alcohol beer sector.

We questioned its staying power, but we are being proven wrong…

Here’s the deal…

At a time when overall beer sales seem to be slowing, non-alcoholic beer sales are soaring and Molson Coors is making moves to own a piece of a buzz-free segment that is projected to generate $35billion in the US in 2023.

First with Peroni and soon with the Blue Moon beer brand…

Peroni Nastro Azzurro is a premium pilsner beer from the brewery, Peroni di Roma in Rome, that is brewed using the original recipe since 1963. And Peroni 0.0% arrives as a growing number of US drinkers are seeking out  more low or no-alcohol options than ever.

Peroni 0.0% was brewed with “an innovative dealcoholization process to deliver the superior taste that customers expect from Peroni Nastro Azzurro,” Cara Lauritzen, senior marketing manager for Peroni told Beer & Beyond. “People choose Peroni because they want that taste of Italy in their hand, they want that experience. They’re going to get that with Peroni 0.0%.”

And the Molson Coors’ Blue Moon beer brand will soon be introducing a non-alcoholic variation.

Planned to debut well before “Dry January” 2024, Blue Moon Non-Alcoholic Belgian White, a Belgian-style Wheat Brew is looking to make waves as consumers seek out more low- and no-alcoholic options.

At under .5% alcohol by volume and only 80 calories, Blue Moon Non-Alcoholic Belgian White is brewed with the same Valencia orange peel that’s made it so immensely popular in the US and Molson Coors is hoping to capture that vibe in its buzz-free variation.

“Blue Moon changed the way we think about beer, and it’s doing it again, this time in the non-alc segment,” Jamie Wideman, vice president of innovation for Molson Coors told Beer & Beyond. “Now Blue Moon has an opportunity to deliver a non-alcoholic craft brew from a brand that drinkers trust.”
