NFL Football kicked off last week, and Miller Lite took the opportunity to introduce a special beer can that allows cord-cutters to stream NFL games for free.

Sure it was all just a Molson Coors promotion but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t better than many of last week’s football games.

With a growing number of football fans bailing on paid TV, Miller Lite debuted a humorous spot during last Sunday’s pro football game between Dallas and Los Angeles, that introduced the Cantenna, a special Miller Lite can affixed with a digital antenna that will stream the NFL for free.

For the 3-minute spot which sets up the clever campaign,  DDB Chicago tapped production company Smuggler and director Tony Yacenda, known for his Netflix series “American Vandal” and for his collaborations with Lil’ Dicky on FX Networks’ “Dave.”

“We really wanted to reach cord-cutters going into football season,” Stephanie Clanfield, associate marketing manager for Miller Lite told Beer & Beyond.

“When trying to stream live sports, it can be difficult and confusing, and some people might have to resort to illegal streams to catch the game. With the ‘Cantenna’ football fans and their friends can kickstart Miller Time in a safe and legal way.”

Amazingly Miller Lite’s Cantenna actually works. It comes with a digital coaxial antenna and cable that plugs into your TV and allow you access to the major networks, like ABC, CBS and NBC.

The “Cantenna” is not the first ‘canovation’ from the brand…

Last year Miller Lite introduced the “Cantroller,” a 12-oz can of beer that was also a fully-functioning gaming controller.

And in this sometimes depressing time of COVID-19, Miller Lite’s Cantenna campaign is welcome, if ridiculous, fun.
