April’s almost a memory…but clearly the craft beer biz isn’t slowing down any time soon. No worries, the Beer Buzz is always on the case, keeping you up on all the beer news and lifestyle that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that!

Are more Beer Sales Regulations Brewing in Colorado? (Denver) – In 2016, state lawmakers passed a sweeping reform bill aimed at addressing alcohol sales in Colorado. Currently, full-strength beer is only allowed to be sold in a handful of grocery stores in the state. Bur beginning in 2019, most convenience stores and grocery stores will be able to sell full-strength beer.

And that has led some liquor store operators (read: liquor store lobbyists) to solicit lawmakers for further restrictions to the bill that they hope will protect them from the impact of no longer being the primary sales outlet for full-strength beer sales in Colorado.

Proposed beer sale regulations include restricting the shelf space for selling alcohol at some convenience and grocery stores (lame) and limiting alcohol sales to stores that have at least 20 percent of their total revenue in food (a very high bar for gas station/convenience stores). And as Fox31 reports “convenience stories are not taking well to the news.”

Words To Drink By (Denver, CO) – “The government is treating one group of businesses one way and another group of businesses another.”- State Sen. Chris Holbert, beer legislation sponsor

The BA’s new Diversity Ambassador J. Nikol Jackson-Beckham

Diversity Rules At The Brewers Association (Boulder, CO) – Furthering its commitment to diversity, the Brewers Association (BA) tapped J. Nikol Jackson-Beckham, Ph.D as its first-ever Diversity Ambassador.

An Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Randolph College, Jackson-Beckham is clearly smarter than anyone in the American Craft Beer offices (and probably nicer as well). An avid homebrewer for over a decade she has researched and written about beer and its place in American culture.

Jackson-Beckham will make her first appearance as ‘Diversity Ambassador’ at the Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America®, in Nashville, Tennessee from April 30 to May 3. Yet another reason to attend the 2018 CBC!

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Boston, MA) – Last night we hit up a summer seasonal that Boston Beer has been brewing annually for more than two decades… Spiced with an African pepper called Grains of Paradise and brewed with lemon peel, Samuel Adams Summer Ale is a 5.3% ABV American Wheat Ale with a crisp citrus character and a peppery bite.
