All IPA Newbies – 5 New Releases You May Need Now
Sometimes even we’re amazed by sheer numbers and variety of IPA’s being brewed today. Hey we get that it’s craft beer’s most popular beer style….but still. And here are some new India Pale Ales that you just might need this weekend.
Cloud Covered (Athens, GA) – Terrapin Beer has been getting into in the “cloudy” IPA game and they’ve just shipped their latest New England style creation. Pumped out of its mind on a medley of Amarillo, Citra, Galaxy and Mosaic hops Terrapin Cumulus Lupulus is an 8.1% unfiltered India Pale Ale that takes juiciness to a stunning new level.
Robust, Hoppy & Generous (Boulder, CO) – We’d also add “hand-crafted” to how Upslope Brewing describe their recent golden-colored release. Bigger than some at 10% ABV, Upslope Imperial IPA, is a near-perfect mix of snowmelt, malt, yeast and southern hemisphere hops.
An Asian Occasion (Seattle, WA) – Elysian Brewing looks to the East for their India Pale Ale that’s undeniably Asian in its instincts. Brewed with German Northern Brewer, Glacier and Amarillo hops and died jasmine flowers, Elysian Avatar Jasmine IPA is a very decent IPA that’s primed for contemplation.
2017 GUBNA (Longmont, CO / Brevard, NC/Austin Texas)) For the sixth spring in a row, Oskar Blues has returned a legend and they’re claiming that this one’s their best. Nearly 100 employees were convened to pick just the right hops for this year’s GUBNA, and they went with a more established mix this time around as opposed to the mix of experimentals that dominated last year’s version. Oskar Blues GUBNA is this year’s take on what has become a rite of spring – and it’s definitely one of their best!
Slurm Lord (Bellaire, MI) – Short’s Brewing will be getting into the “New England/Cloudy/Hazy” IPA game with a new release they plan to debut at their 13th anniversary party at the end of April, so unfortunately you’re just going to have to wait on this one. But as with most of Short’s special releases, we promise you, it will be worth the wait. A Michigan-only release at this point, Short’s Slurm is a juicy and almost opaque New England style India Pale Ale that will see broader distribution in May.
