Stone’s Old Guardian goes “Classic and “Odd” (Escondido, CA) – As 2013 is an odd-numbered year, Stone Brewing Co. is revisiting the “Odd Beers for Odd Years” program that began in 2011 with their Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine. The program introduces new or “odd” versions of brews in tandem with classic versions of each beer. Stone’s classic barley wine is their traditional strong ale that so many of you are already familiar with. The odd year Stone Old Guardian OAK-SMOKED Barley Wine is the regular recipe tweaked to include oak-smoked wheat malt. Both beers can be cellared for several months or years, but we’ll be drinking ours right away!
Signs of an Early Spring (Ft. Collins, CO) – In what many might see as a sure sign that the seasons are changing, New Belgium Brewing is rolling out their new spring seasonal. Dig Pale Ale begins with Sorachi Ace hops, followed by Nelson Sauvin hops offering subtle fruit notes and a measured crispness. Dig weighs in at a spring-like 5.6% ABV and is available in most New Belgium markets through April.
Pinup Girls Now In Six-Packs (Dover, DE) – Dominion brewing’s pinup-themed fan favorites, Double D and Morning Glory, are hitting the shelves now as well as moving from 22 oz bombers to 12 oz six packs. Double D is a full-bodied Imperial India Pale Ale with a sassy label and a torrid finish. Morning Glory, Dominion’s massive espresso stout, has its own distinctive pinup girl vibe going on. Both of these intoxicating labels were designed by visionary artist Ryan Telle.
Summit Gives 100% (St. Paul, MN) – Summit Brewing Company has just announced the release of the twelfth beer produced in its Unchained Series and Minnesota’s first 100% certified organic beer. 100% Organic Ale is brewer Gabe Smoley’s first “Unchained” creation and it will be available in draught and bottles the week of March 5. “Most USDA-certified organic beers on the market are about 95-99.9% organic because it is extremely difficult to find ingredients like organic yeast,” said Smoley. “This beer is made with 100% organic ingredients including malts, hops and yeast. I created my own certified organic yeast strain to do this, as there are virtually no organic strains available from laboratories.”
Karbach’s Got A Barn Burner Coming (Houston, TX) – Karbach Brewing has announced an early March rollout of their newest seasonal. Barn Burner Saison is a Belgian-style farmhouse ale and it’s coming out in cans for the very first time. According to Brewmaster Eric Warner, “Barn Burner Saison is effervescent and golden in color with hints of citrus and spice, making it a great match for the warm spring we have here in Houston. The beer uses a unique yeast strain and fresh Texas-grown grapefruit zest which gives it an extremely refreshing character without sacrificing depth of flavor.” Barn Burner Saison will be available on tap and in canned six-packs from March through May and will start hitting shelves on March 1.
