New Beer Alert: Classic Red Lagers And Guinness Foreign Extra Stout

November is ON and American brewers are addressing things with an intriguing roster of beers you’re gonna want to have around as things cool down.

Foreign Intrigue (Dublin, IR) – We’re big fans of Guiness, so much so that during  a recent craft beer junket in Ireland, we would end every night at the local pub with a Guinness Draught Stout in hand. But Guinness also makes a stout that’s equally distinctive.

Much lower in alcohol (7.5% ABV) than its American compatriots, and unlike their flagship, carbonated rather than nitro- infused Guinness Foreign Extra Stout delivers rich dark chocolate, dried fruit and caramel tones, and is as close as the brewery gets to what might be considered an “Imperial”  stout in the United States.

Deservedly popular around world and accounting for 45% of their worldwide sales, Foreign Extra is less ubiquitous in the states and a valuable find when you happen upon it.

A Dope Deal (Inglewood, CA) – Crowns & Hops, the first Black-Owned, Woman-Owned and Veteran-owned brewery based out of Inglewood was founded by Beny Ashburn and Teo Hunter in 2018 and they’ve a beer that has become our go-to  IPA at the American Craft Beer compound.

Aptly named, using urban slang which describes “something that is amazing,”  Crowns & Hops The Dopest is a 6.8% ABV double dry-hopped Hazy India Pale Ale with notes of citrus and sweet fruit balanced with mild woodiness and pine, that gives way to a creamy, smooth mouthfeel.

In 2024 Crowns & Hops was the recipient of Samuel Adam’s  Brewing & Business Experienceship mentorship program held in Boston. This unique event, held on June 7th, featured Crowns & Hops Brewing and five other finalists from across the nation, all serving their best and Beny and Teo showcased The Dopest that award-winning evening.

Get Toasted (Patchogue, NY) – Football season is ON and  Blue Point has a beer that plays nice at the games. A staple of the Long Island craft brewing scene, with a rich 24-year heritage, Blue Point Toasted Lager is a smooth and approachable, award-winning 5.5% ABV American craft beer classic that should never be overlooked.
