Hey it's Labor Day Weekend and we'll be shutting things down shortly. No need to freak out though, because we'll be back in action and in full damage mode next Tuesday the 7^th. Yes... it's an ale featuring pumpkin and yes, it's now a more defined style as set by the BJCP's 2014 Guidelines (Spiced Beer: Autumn Seasonal) than ever before, but vagueness has never stopped us before and we're dead set on finding out what the hell makes this beer tick. It's this thirst for knowledge that drives us to dig deeper into the stories behind the beer we drink, thus protecting you from the embarrassment of not knowing exactly what it is you've decided to put in your mouth. So welcome to the latest in our ongoing series (drum roll please...) "What the Hell is a Pumpkin Ale?"

We can't believe it's September...So much has happened this year and it doesn't appear that things will be slowing down any time soon. But no worries - Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in to all the craft beer news that matters. Plus we've an all-important update on what we've been drinking lately and you absolutely don't want to miss that.

It seems like for years now we've been seeing pumpkin beers ship earlier and earlier. We remember back to 2011 and how strange it was to see Sam Adam's pumpkin beers hit retail shelves in early August. Fast forward to now and breweries like Elysian, Southern Tier, Cigar City, among others, are releasing their pumpkin ales as early as June.

We blame the industry for this... It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates - things were pretty much done. But clearly all that's changed.

Last year when Musicfest NW evolved away from it's SXSW-style roots, once spread out around the city over 4 days and now packed into a weekend festival, it wanted to be bigger - officially now the biggest in Portland.

When it comes to BIG music festivals in the Northwest, the first that comes to mind is Sasquatch because damn, have you ever watched bands play in front of huge river? So it's a tall order, yet it was my first corporate sponsored festival since Coachella back in aught-five, so this event was begging for our attention.
