The Atlanta-based brewery is expanding its reach westward with a new brewery in Fort Collins and a taproom at Denver International Airport.

Here’s the deal…

Nearly two months after the sale of SweetWater Brewing to Aphria Inc., a leading global cannabis company headquartered in Leamington, Ontario, the company announced plans ror the brewery’s expansion into Colorado, the first US state to legalize recreational marijuana.

In its announcement the company noted that SweetWater’s westward move was at least in part, inspired by Colorado’s pot-friendly and outdoor-forward ethos. But its also a place where Founder and CEO Freddy Bensch, a part-time resident of the state, attended college and held his first brewery job.

, SweetWater Brewing Announces New Brewery and Taphouse In Colorado“Colorado has always held a special place in my heart. It’s where I first learned to brew beer and where I now live half of the year in Telluride. Because of my connection with the state, SweetWater has always had a Colorado vibe” said Freddy Bensch.

And now Bensch will be returning to Colorado along with Laird Mulderink, General Manager of Operations, to oversee SweetWater’s move into an expansive 32,450 square foot space in Fort Collins that previously housed Red Truck Brewing Company.

The Western US brewery will undergo an extensive renovation which will include operational enhancements to the brewing and packaging areas, as well as an overall facelift for the taproom and restaurant to better reflect the SweetWater brand.

The 11th largest craft brewery in the nation also announced the opening of the SweetWater Mountain Taphouse in Concourse B at the Denver International Airport.

“This exciting expansion with the opening of this state-of-the-art brewery in Colorado and SweetWater Mountain Taphouse at the Denver International Airport truly brings things full circle,” said Freddy Bensch, founder and CEO of SweetWater. The general vibe throughout Colorado aligns perfectly with who we are as a brand and SweetWater’s passion for the great outdoors, and embracing a 420 lifestyle.”
