Heineken Debuts Gluten-Free Beer in Brazil
Heineken has officially entered the “premium fit beer” market with the launch of Heineken Ultimate, a new lower-calorie, gluten-free beer variation debuting first in Brazil. The global innovation was introduced by the Dutch brewer to capture the growing demographic of consumers looking to balance their social lives with health and wellness goals.
With 30% fewer calories than a traditional Heineken and completely gluten-free, Heineken Ultimate is a 3.5% ABV lager that utilizes Heineken’s signature A-yeast to preserve its iconic flavor profile.
Brazil is Heineken’s largest market by volume. The launch of Heineken Ultimate is a tactical move to intensity competition in the highly coveted premium segment against its main rival, Ambev.
Ambev (Companhia de Bebidas das Américas) is the largest brewing company in Latin America and the dominant market leader in Brazil, commanding roughly 60% of the country’s beer market.
Ambev recently found immense success in Brazil with its low-calorie, gluten-free competitor, Stella Artois Pure Gold, forcing Heineken to respond with its own “fit” alternative.

The Reason People Never Drink In Beer Commercials
Did you ever notice that beer commercials never actually show anyone drinking that beer? We have and we’d always assumed there must be some federal regulation prohibiting that, but according to Chowhound we were wrong…
“The government actually has no hard-and-fast rules about showing anyone consuming alcohol in commercials. It actually comes down to the networks themselves, all of which generally look down on alcohol consumption on camera.”
