Emotional Support Beer Becomes A Reality

You know those people who ride public transit with their “emotional support” pets? Brooklyn resident Floyd Hayes was riding the bus in New York City when he got the idea for the “Emotional Support Beer,” after an announcement said it was illegal to use alcohol on board without written permission.

“The bus announcement said ‘no loud cell phone calls, keep your headphone on low, don’t distract the driver and the use of alcohol is against federal law unless you have a prior written permission’”. And as Hayes explained to Time Out New York, The ‘written permission’ tickled me. I liked the idea of enjoying a beer and then unfurling a scroll of permission if challenged by the law.”

So as a joke Hayes went ahead and registered a pint of beer as an emotional support animal with the USA Service Dog Registration.

That story went viral and now Hayes’ Emotional Support Beer is an actual product that you can buy for yourself.

Working with Woodstock Brewing, Hayes has made his beer a reality. And if you throw down $20 for a 16oz 4-pack, a portion of the proceeds are being donated to Operation at Ease, an organization that “takes dogs from shelters and pairs them with deserving veterans and first responders.”

First Esport Meets Craft Beer Collaboration Ever

Esports (also known as electronic sports, e-sports, or eSports) is a form of sport competition using video games. Esports often takes the form of organized, multiplayer video competitions, particularly between professional players, individually or as teams.

And one of the most successful Esport franchises, Overwatch, who sponsor the mid-Atlantic Washington Justice Team, have partnered with DC Brau on the “Sip of Justice” beer can for fans to enjoy as they watch their team compete and represent the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region.

The inspiration for this innovative partnership between an esports team and a local brewery was spearheaded by Laveen Daryani, Partnerships and Business Manager of the Washington Justice, and Brandon Skall, CEO & Co-Founder of DC Brau.

Both Daryani and Skall are long time gaming enthusiasts, brought together by a mutual love of craft beer and a passion for supporting local businesses.
