Newbies – New Releases You Want to Look Out For
So many beers, So little time… Narragansett Beer traditionally isn’t known for craft beer – but maybe they should be. We’ve that story for you and other cool new releases from The Commons Brewery and Firestone Walker’s Barrelworks that you absolutely need to know about!

Black Currants Run Deep (Portland, OR) – Our friends at The Commons Brewery released their newest seasonal earlier this week and we can’t wait to get our sweaty little hands on it! Modeled after the French cocktail Kir Royale, Biere Royale is a sour ale with black currants that was first brewed as a popular, draft-only beer for the Portland Fruit Beer Festival. The bottled version uses a house-grown Lactobacillus culture that was originally harvested from yogurt. Black currants lend an additional acidity, fruitiness, and a deep purple hue to the final brew that is available now in 750ml bottles and in limited draft quantities at their tasting room as well as on retail shelves until mid-August.

Two New Beers Join Widmer’s Historic Series (Portland, OR) – Widmer Brothers has just released two new beers to commemorate the years 1992 and 1993, respectively, as part of their 30 Beers for 30 Years Series. Widmer Doppelbock is a traditional strong German-style lager that uses heavy portions of dark malts. And Widmer Ur-Alt is a legend for Widmer Brothers because it replicates the very first batches of Altbier ever produced by Kurt and Rob in the earliest days of the brewery. Both beers will be available throughout July and early August in the Portland area only. Like all beers in the 30 Beers for 30 Years Series, an extremely limited quantity of each beer was brewed and packaged with custom labels for sale in 22 oz. bottles and on draught.
