Spring is just around the corner and American brewers are addressing things with a whole new roster of light beers that you’re gonna want to have around as the weather warms up.

Texas-Special (Shiner, TX) – The K. Spoetzl Brewery, home to Shiner Beer has announced the revival of a historic beer brand rooted in tradition and Texan spirit. First brewed in 1933 to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition, the brand remained a local staple into the 1960s, when large-scale domestic brewers began using aggressive pricing and tactics, effectively making the small-scale production of beers like Texas Special unsustainable. Now back in action, this historic beer honors nearly a century of brewing excellence—all at a fair price.

Alongside the revival of Texas Special, with a revamped recipe, the brand is introducing, a lighter take on the classic Texas brew.

And here’s how the K. Spoetzl Brewery describes them…

  • Texas Special (4.4 % ABV): This American-style lager offers a crisp, refreshing taste with a smooth, easy finish. The aroma features subtle malt sweetness with hints of grain and fresh bread, complemented by a delicate floral hop note
  • Texas Special Light (4.0% ABV ): A refined, lighter take on Texas Special, this American-style light lager offers a delicate aroma of sweet malt and subtle hops and its just 98 calories

Three Floyds Sees The Light (Munster, IN) –  Three Floyds Brewing, a brewery renowned for the big hoppy IPAs and bold Imperial Stouts is stepping “beyond the craft beer category” with a more traditional style of lager. Brewed with Indiana corn grits, and they do grow a lot of corn out that way, Floyd’s Deluxe 4.5%  ABV “lighter-style premium lager” that checks all the crisp, clean and refreshing boxes.

“When we began to develop Floyds Deluxe, we weren’t making a craft lager – we were creating an American lighter-style lager,” said Cory Just, Three Floyds’ Marketing Director. “While that distinction might seem subtle, it’s a critical point of differentiation reflected in every aspect of this brand, including its packaging. Unlike our usual maximalist approach, this isn’t an intensely hopped-up brew. It’s a light, clean, and exceptionally well-crafted beer, carefully lagered for 8 weeks.”
