Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Don’t get us wrong, television’s 1996’s animated Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) is terrific…the music is great and how can you not loved that it’s voiced by Boris Karloff? But Jim Carrey’s filmed version, which was originally panned when it debuted in 2000, has an oft-centered charm that has just gotten better over the years. Directed by Ron Howard (and starring Jim Carrey in his manic prime) The Grinch won an Academy Award for ‘Best Makeup” but should have taken an Oscar for just being incredibly weird.  Suggested Beer Pairing: The Grinch Christmas Ale – Bridge Brewing (North Vancouver, Canada)

A Bad Mom’s Christmas

Although not quite as hilarious as 2016’s Bad Moms, this Christmas sequel is still R-rated fun dressed up in Santa Claus garb. This time around the bad moms (Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Katherine Hahn) find the tables turned on them over the holidays hosting and entertaining their own mothers (Christine Baranski, Susan Sarandon and Cheryl Hines). Add drugs to the eggnog and you get the picture. (Hulu) Suggested Beer Pairing: Working Mom Barrel-Aged Imperial Brown Ale – Revolution Brewing (Chicago, IL)

A Christmas Horror Story

, More ‘Not-Normal’ Christmas Movies And Craft Beer PairingsOriginally released in 2015, this holiday horror flick is actually three different interwoven stories, all taking place on Christmas Eve: A family brings home more than a Christmas tree, a student documentary becomes a living nightmare, a Christmas spirit terrorizes and Santa slays evil. William Shatner, at his campiest best, stars as ‘Dangerous Dan’ a radio DJ who ties all the stories together. But there’s also zombie elves…And you ABSOLUTELY don’t want to miss that. (Netflix)   Suggested Beer Pairing: Mad Elf Ale – Tröegs Brewing (Hershey, PA)

Bad Santa

Probably the most tasteless holiday movie ever and as a result one of our favorites. Billy Bob Thornton stars as Willie, a drunken con man who along with this dwarf partner pose as Santa and his companion elf, so they can rob a department store on Christmas Eve.  But after befriending a small boy brings out his kinder side, Willie begins to wonder if there is still some hope for him. Suggested beer pairing: Bad Santa Cascadian Dark Ale – Pelican Brewing (Pacific City, OR)
