The Great British Beer Festival Tackles Sexual Assault With New Campaign
One of the UK’s most important beer events, The Great British Beer Festival is prioritizing guests’ safety this year with a special campaign that’s named “Ask for Angela.”
Here’s the deal…
When CAMRA’s Great British Beer Festival, the United Kingdom’s biggest beer gathering returns to London this summer there will be new procedures in place where a festival-goer can approach any staff member working on the festival’s onsite bars and ask for “Angela” to signal they need assistance. They will be taken aside or to a safe location and offered help.
According to the Drinks Business the festival staff will either offer to call a taxi for the individual… contact their friends or family…or ask the person causing distress to a festival-goer to leave.
Festival organizer Catherine Tony explained that the new campaign will provide attendees with “a safety net for anyone who may need help removing themselves from an uncomfortable or dangerous situation…”
“Safety is a priority at the Great British Beer Festival and at all CAMRA events and festivals. Everyone who passes through the doors to the Great British Beer Festival should feel safe during their stay, and this is just another way that we’re making sure that our visitors can enjoy their time safe in the knowledge that we will look after them if they need help.”
The Great British Beer Festival, a week-long celebration, will return Olympia London this summer August 7th– 11th.
