American Craft Beer delivers craft beer news =, entertainment and lifestyle 24/7 and because we do, we’re sometimes sent books to review. And we recently received a new book that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and for that reason alone it’s one our favorite books so far this year…
We’ve reviewed a number of great books this year and although many of them were informative, and a few even definitive, very of them were what we’d call a fun read…Smart, funny and genuinely inventive Beer Hacks: 100 Tips, Tricks, and Projects is all about beer and all about having fun.
Written by Ben Robinson, who in addition to being an unabashed beer lover, as well as the editor-in-chief for The Observer, is clearly a man who enjoys a good time.

Ben Robinson
He’s also a man who knows how to write conversationally which he puts to fine use in his good-humored opus starting with the book’s dedication to his family…
“To my astounding and unnecessarily understanding wife, Rebecca, who allowed me to shoot cans of beer with a fire extinguisher in our home for research, and my daughter Lyle who isn’t allowed to read this book until she’s twenty-one.”
Complete with over 200 step-by-step illustrations (think airplane seat-back emergency cards with a dry sense of humor) that take on everything from how to open a beer with your wedding ring and how to work a beer festival like a seasoned pro, to conditioning your hair (as actress Catherine Zeya-Jones does) with beer.
We’ve recommended many a book that we’ve deemed essential for any serious beer library, and we stand by them all.
But Beer Hacks is a different kind beer book altogether and it deserves a place on the shelf that’s closer to your fun-loving friends and the next beer your enjoying.
