Brewery Director’s Lenten Beer Fast Nears End

It’s been said that “all good things must come to an end”…and for one Ohio man who’s been on an all beer diet for Lent, that couldn’t be more true.

Del Hall’s story went viral when News station WKRC-12 broke the news and for good reason.

Hall, the Director of Sales for Fifty West Brewing Company in Cincinnati had decided to refrain from all solid food until Easter, drinking only beer for sustenance, as well as some water.

Hall explained that his actions were inspired by German monks in the 1600’s who consumed nothing but beer during Lent…

“Being master brewers, they decided they would take a popular style of beer in Germany, bock beer, make it extra hearty and that would be their liquid bread and that’s what they call it.

 “So the monks in Bavaria, they would call Doppelbock liquid bread and basically it would sustain them through the 46 days of Lent.”

But Hall didn’t limit his beers by style…who would?  Especially since he works for a brewery and has access to a variety of beer options.

And with those many days of drinking primarily beer soon coming to an end…Hall shared some of his Lenten journey with USA Today..

The challenge was good for him.

Yes, he wanted to lose weight but it was more than that. He explained to the paper that “Lent is the time to walk the walk, not just talk is talk.”

And he did…

He’s not touched food for since his fast began and never felt better…

He reportedly needs less sleep nowadays, is incredibly clear-minded and has seen the normal aches and pains that can accompany a 43-year-old body disappear.

Hall, who has been consuming two to five beers a day since he began his Lenten effort, has lost almost 43 pounds.

And even after drinking nothing but beer for such a prolonged period, he’s not sick of it…

“Beer isn’t as bad a people think. Everything in excess is bad for you and really, the average American diet will kill you faster than craft beer will.”
