BrewDog Hooks Up With LA’s Dope & Dank To Champion Greater Diversity In Craft Beer

Scottish punk brewers BrewDog have joined forces with two Crowns & Hops’ pioneers to move craft beer beyond “white guys with beards.”

Here’s what we know…

In last year’s BrewDog Blueprint, the company introduced its Development Fund 2.0 as a way that the now hugely successful company could help others spread the craft beer word.

And as part of that effort they’ve partnered with Beny Ashburn (The Dope) & Teo Hunter (The Dank) the driving force behind Crowns & Hops crowd-funded effort to build a brand and open the first black-owned independent craft brewery to the city of Inglewood, CA.

Crowns & Hops is Beny and Teo’s have committed to challenging the stereotype that people of color don’t drink craft beer. And when BrewDog first met them they were “blown away by their tenacity and dedication to establishing a craft beer presence in places that are culturally rich.” And they wanted in on Dope & Dank’s mission to grow a new brand and brewery that will bring culture, music and world-class beer to the black and brown community.

This is how Teo sees it…

“This movement for inclusion in craft beer along with our goal of opening this brewery is not about tearing down what’s currently here, rather, it’s about building what’s missing. Crowns & Hops will be a craft beer brand and environment reflective of our culture and heritage coupled with incredible beer.”

Here’s what BrewDog will be doing with Crowns & Hops

• Assisting Crowns & Hops with establishing their first ever Brewpub in Inglewood, California
• Brewing three signature beers at our eco-breweries in Ellon, Scotland and Columbus, Ohio
• Helping Crowns & Hops launch global crowdfunding campaign which is LIVE NOW on Indiegogo. You can support Crowns & Hops in their mission and become a member of the Crowns & Hops OG Founder’s Crew!
• Staging tasting events for Crowns & Hops’ signature beers (an IPA, a pilsner and a stout), in the UK and USA

BrewDog has also committed to helping Crowns & Hops distribute those beers across the UK and Europe from our Ellon brewery and the US out of our brewhouse in Columbus.

BrewDog will also make Crowns & Hops debut beers available for sale on its online shop – and BrewDog’s Equity Punks and Crowns & Hops Crew on both sides of the Atlantic will have first chance to taste them.

Dope & Dank’s craft beer mission “to preserve culture, enhance the palate and build community” is heralding in a “new now” and that “now” that’s long overdue.
