Celebrated the first Monday of every September, Labor Day honors America’s workers and their many contributions to our nation’s strength, prosperity and well-being. That said, it’s also a great time for friends, family, cookouts and BEER.
Suffice to say Labor Day beers are cook-out friendly brews with a little more seasonal heft…and here’s a couple you might want to have on hand.
Schlafly Pilsner Beer
With Labor Day signaling the official end to summer, we’ll be celebrating it’s passing the same way we did on Memorial Day…with pilsners. And Schlafly Beer has a terrific new one.
From its bright lemon tones to its peppery finish, Schlafly Pilsner Beer is a 5% ABV crisp golden lager that’s guaranteed to make any backyard barbeque even better.
Deschutes Black Butte Porter
With summer near its end and temperatures a little cooler, porters make so much more sense than they did on Memorial Day, and Deschutes, the seventh largest brewery in the country, brews a great one.
From its rich notes of chocolate and coffee, to its uber-creamy mouthfeel and roasty finish, Deschutes’s 5.2% ABV Black Butte Porter is both solid and unpretentious. It’s also great to cook with!
Alaskan Heritage Coffee Brown
Alaskan Brewing recently partnered with Heritage Coffee Roasting on this new seasonal. It’s a little more aggressive than some of these Labor Day beer, but you’re going need something for that beach bonfire.
Brewed using exotic caramel and honey-sweet Brazilian Paixao coffee bean, Alaskan Heritage Coffee Brown is a 7% ABV celebration of fresh autumnal flavors and rich English malts.
Brooklyn Defender IPA
What’s Labor Day without an interesting IPA (or three)? And Brooklyn Brewery has returned their popular fall India Pale Ale just in time for this weekend (and NYC’s Comic-Con)
Sporting a slightly revised recipe this year, 2017’s Brooklyn Defender IPA is a 5.9% ABV Golden India Pale with a well-toned hoppiness and tons of swagger.
2017 Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest
Summer to fall is Oktoberfest season, so why not a Märzen with those smoked Labor Day sausages? And every year, Sierra Nevada teams up with a different Bavarian brewer to craft something special that’s always impresses.
This year Sierra Nevada partnered with the legendary Brauhaus Miltenberger to brew up a 6.1% ABV deep and delicious, golden fall lager that’s surprisingly barbeque friendly.
