The beer biz never sleeps at American Craft Beer. And here’s some of what’s been happening in the beer world, while you were drinking your way through a final October weekend.

Off Color Will Package Big Beers In Smaller Bottles (Chicago, IL) – Off Color Brewing is one of the most inventive craft breweries in the “Windy City.” And they’ve just introduced an inventive new packaging size for their bigger and boozier brews… svelte 8.45 ounces bottles, sold as 4-packs.

As most craft lovers know all too well, those big complex beers sold in 750-milliliter “bombers” only make sense when you’re sharing them with friends and as a result they’ve fallen out of favor with individual consumers.

Enter Off Color’s smaller configuration and according the Chicago Tribune’s Josh Noel (one of our favorite beer reporters) they may be “one of the few craft breweries (or possibly the only one) among nearly 7,000 in the U.S. packaging beer in such a small vessel.”

Words To Drink By (Chicago, IL) – We’re trying to promote the idea of elegance in a super-premium product…We do quirky little things…I’m excited to see these bottles on store shelves.” John Laffler, Off Color Brewing

Fieldwork Adds To Its Empire (Berkeley, CA) – Northern California’s Fieldwork Brewing which began as a small craft operation in Berkeley has been quietly expanding their reach. They’ve already existing taprooms in Berkeley, Monterey, Napa, Sacramento and San Mateo… and they’ll soon be opening their sixth outlet.

Fieldwork’s long anticipated new San Ramon brewery will be throwing open its doors November 8th and looks to be well worth the wait. Located in San Ramon’s new City Center Bishop Ranch Fieldwork’s latest location feature its own brewing hub, a 2,400-square-foot taproom and a 2,700-square-foot outdoor beer garden complete with fire pits.
