Drink Serious Beer In Screw City (Rockford, IL) – How do you avoid mentioning an event named the Screw City Beer Festival? The answer is you don’t. But you can get your dirty minds out of the gutter now everybody because Rockford, Illinois (which is hosting this event on Saturday, September 10th) was once known as the “Screw Capital” of the nation and this festival pays tribute to the region’s industrial past. On The Big Screen – The good news is that this weekend’s highest profile movie opening was not only directed by the always dependable Clint Eastwood, it also stars Tom Hanks who can infuse even the weakest narrative with humanity. The bad news is that Sully (which tells the true story of pilot Chesley Sullenberger, who successfully landed a damaged passenger plane the Hudson River back in 2009), might be dismissed as just another old news story and overlooked by the public, no matter how good the players involved.
A Capital Craft Beer Festival (Sacramento, CA) – As the grand finale of the California Craft Beer Summit, the California Craft Brewers Association is presenting a special conference-ending signature beer festival this Saturday September 10th. Held on the mall in front of the State Capital, The Summit Beer Festival will present coveted and unique beers from more than 160 California breweries as well as live music and delectable artisan food. TV Time – Can a television series be blatantly degenerate and utterly compelling at the same time? We think the success of Showtime’s Ray Donovan answers that question resoundingly. Set in Los Angeles the sprawling mecca for the rich and famous as well as for the forgotten Ray Donovan stars Liev Schreiber as a “fixer” who works behind-the- scene to make the problems of LA’s top power players go away. Now in its fourth season, Ray Donovan is intoxicating and compelling junk. Just watch it – we won’t judge you.
