The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – January 8, 2016
Hey it’s Friday… and you’re ready for some fun. Well good, because we’re all about it and we’ve got all kinds of ideas for you. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals to movies, music and cutting edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time. Plus we’ve a weekend beer pick for you too, because we know you’ll be drinking!
So welcome to our awesome Weekend Picks…
Want Snow Big Beers, Belgians and Barleywines? (Vail, CO) – Then we’ve got something that you’ll want to hit this weekend and its taking place at the Vail Cascade Resort and Spa. The 16th annual Big Beers, Belgians and Barleywines Festival is three days (Jan 7th-9th) of serious drinking. This year’s event will feature over 300 enormous beers from all around the world. There will also be all kinds of industry reps on hand to chat up their beers and keep you’re buzz on. The Big Beers Fest in Vail is one of Sam Calagione’s (Dogfish Head) favorite beer festivals – and that should be reason enough for you to go. On The Big Screen – One of this year’s most buzzed-about films opens wide this weekend and it has wound up on countless Top-10 list already this year. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant is brutal and visually spectacular follow-up to last year’s Academy Award-winning Birdman. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as a frontiersman in the 1820s, whose fur trading expedition comes to a brutal end, when he’s mauled by a bear. Left for dead by his friends, and one wicked-nasty Tom Hardy, DiCaprio struggles to survive in a vast and unforgiving winter wasteland, in an epic “revenge western” that could teach Quentin Tarantino a thing or two.
Drink Craft Beer In The Keys (Key Largo, FL) – The antithesis of our last snow-bound beer festival pick out in Colorado, Brew on the Bay 2016 takes place in America’s tropics. Join the Rotary Club this Saturday January 9th, for a craft beer throwdown of epic proportions in the Florida Keys. With more breweries attending than ever before and over 100 unique craft beers offerings, the 5th annual Brew on the Bay ends, as it should, with a sunset celebration overlooking the beautiful Florida Bay.
TV Time – Netflix has a new binge-worthy Marvel superhero drama that’s been generating some well-deserved buzz – and we can’t recommend it highly enough. Sexy hip and thoroughly entertaining, more a homage to New York Detective Noir than it is just another comic-book hero spin-off – Jessica Jones is something completely different. Krysten Ritter stars as the hard-living semi-alcoholic former superhero, barely getting by as a private eye. David Tennant is terrifying as Kilgrave, a mysterious man from Jones’s past, who can control minds.
Our Weekend Beer Pick
When days grow colder – we like our IPA’s darker and bolder – and we’ve a classic for you from the Firestone Walker Brewing Company. A unique twist on the Cascadian Dark Ale style, Firestone Walker’s Wookey Jack is award-winning 8.3% ABV Black Rye IPA that’s perfect for long winter nights and worthy of revisiting.
