Beer Alert: New Island Lagers And Juicy India Pale Ales

Summer is ON and American craft brewers are addressing things with a smart roster of new beers you’re gonna want to have around.

A Night At The Hopora (Hershey, PA) – Tröegs Independent Brewing has returned a popular addition to its Hop Cycle Series of rotating IPAs that was designed to showcase the radiant tropical fruit and citrus notes of Solero hops. Built on a solid backbone of pale malt, oats, and wheat, Tröegs Hopora IPA is a 6.2% ABV India Pale Ale with grapefruit rind and subtle pine notes that inform but never overpower.

Like many of the independent, family-owned brewery’s recent beers, Hopora came to fruition through its 3-barrel “Scratch Lab” nano-brewery. Designed by BrauKon, the Scratch Lab replicates the temperature controls, pressure, and geometry of the brewery’s 100-barrel production brewhouse.

“With the Scratch Lab, we can break up 15-barrel brews into smaller trials,” says Tröegs Brewing Manager Tim Mayhew. “It has allowed us to test things like dry-hop combinations and yeast strains side-by-side at a faster rate. We used to have to wait a few weeks between batches.”

Going For The Gold (Kihei, Hawaii) – Maui Brewing is celebrating its latest award-winning beer, which recently took home a Gold medal in the India Pale Lager category at the recent 2024 US Open Beer Competition

Brewed with Citra Cryo hops, Maui Da Hawai’i Life Lite Lager is a 4% ABV refresher with just 110 calories per 12-ounce serving. This pale gold Lager offers a clean citrus flavor, a light malt character, and aromas of citrus and hops. Its light-bodied profile makes it ideal for summertime drinking

Juice Gate (Nashville, TN) – TailGate Brewery, an independent craft brewery with eight, and soon to be nine, locations throughout Tennessee, has a new addition to its rotating lineup of IPAs that’s exclusively available at their many taprooms. The first release to the brewery’s Wizards’ Order IPA Series, TailGate Juice Wizard is a 6% ABV medium-light bodied IPA with a firm bitterness and juicy flavors of citrus, mango and berries tethered to an earthy resin and pine base.
