If you care about beer, you’re probably familiar with Firestone Walker’s 805 Beer. It was originally conceived as a Central Coast California-only release, an anytime beer that immediately caught fire and spread well beyond its uber-local aspirations.

The 805 brand also has some of the coolest beer marketing we’ve ever seen. Unlike most beer campaigns it is almost totally lifestyle oriented, California lifestyle, in particular. And their cinematic video productions are incredibly engaging.
On April 3rd, 805 Beer added professional saddle bronc rider and four-time National Finals Rodeo (NFR) qualifier Lefty Holman to the ranks of its “Authenticos”—a growing roster of culture drivers who reflect the beer’s values and way of life.
And 805 is celebrating its newest “Authentico” with “Open the Gate,” a new short film documenting Holman’s tenacious rise to the top of the rodeo ranks as a third-generation bronc rider from California’s Central Valley.
Holman grew up in Visalia, a storied Central Valley town in California’s agricultural heartland, and he hails from a long line of rodeo heroes.
He was mentored by his grandfather John Holman, a three-time NFR qualifier, and is the nephew of ProRodeo Hall of Famer Joe Marvel.
“Open the Gate” chronicles how Holman’s dedication and heritage have propelled him to the World Standings Top 10 for each of the past three years and it’s a cinematic and engaging story…
Open The Gates” continues 805 Beer’s tradition of cinematic storytelling, following in the footsteps of acclaimed films like “Making Waves,” “Convergence,” “The House That Built Me,” and “Another Eight Seconds.” Each of these films documents the stories of 805 Authenticos who embody grit, resilience and a relentless pursuit of their passion—the same spirit that defines 805 Beer.
“Lefty isn’t just one of the best saddle bronc riders in the world—he’s the real deal,” said Nathan Sheetz, Brand Director at 805 Beer. “His roots run deep in the Central Valley of California. He carries the grit and authenticity that defines what 805 is all about. He’s not chasing likes or headlines; he’s chasing greatness. That’s why he belongs in the 805 family of Authenticos.”
The Authenticos family includes motocross gold medalist Tyler Bereman; pro surfers Conner Coffin, Lakey Peterson, Nate Tyler and Kirra Pinkerton; X-Games champion Vicki Golden; MMA fighter Tabatha Ricci; Babes Ride Out founder Ashmore Ellis; pro mountain bikers Ryan “R-Dog” Howard and Tyler McCaul; pro boxer Karlos Balderas; and pro snow athletes Ryan McElemon and Gabe Taylor.
