, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – January 10, 2014Drink Vail (Vail, CO) – The 14th annual Big Beers, Belgians and Barleywines Festival is being held this weekend at the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa. Imagine a world-class International Beer Festival, complete with brewmasters’ dinners and seminars by some of the world’s most innovative brewers taking place in one of the most beautiful places on the face of the Earth. Dogfish Head’s Sam Calagione puts it this way: “The Big Beers Fest in Vail is always one of my favorite events of the year. It sells out quick and it rules!” For more info on a Mountain State “must,” check out: Big Beers Belgians & Barleywines

On The Big Screen – There are two movies opening this weekend that deserve your attention. Her is Spike Jonze newest film and also one of our recent Best Movies of 2013 honorary picks. Joaquin Phoenix stars as a withdrawn writer who falls in love with his computer’s highly advanced operating system (played at least in voice by Scarlet Johansson). Amy Adams, Olivia Wilde, and Rooney Mara serve to round out a rich cast in this thoughtful and bittersweet film. Lone Survivor also opens this weekend, and it’s based on an amazing true story. Mark Wahlberg stars as one of four Navy Seals on an ill-fated covert mission, who are ambushed by enemy forces in the Hindu Kush region ofAfghanistan. Based on The New York Times bestseller, this is an astounding story of heroism, courage, and survival. Lone Survivor was directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) and also stars Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, and Eric Bana.

Drink Ohio (Columbus, OH) – The third annual Columbus Winter Beerfest returns to Ohio’s capital city this weekend ( Jan 17-18) and this year’s event is bigger and better than ever! This is two days of celebrating great craft beer from down the street & around the country and you don’t want to miss it. Plus this year’s festival features twice the space as last year’s. You’ll be able to sample more than 300 of the region’s best brews with all your serious beer friends in the 225,000 square feet of luxury that is the Greater Columbus Convention Center! TV Time – Showtime’s Masters of Sex just wrapped up its debut season with a powerful and satisfying finale and if you’ve not yet started watching it – you should. An ACB pick as one of our Best TV Shows of 2013Masters of Sex is based on the true life tale of ’60s sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson, and does for sex researchers what Mad Men did for advertising executives. Masters features plenty of nudity, and beautifully recreates the era with smarts and humor. British actor Michael Sheen shines as the Washington University professor and fertility expert, William Masters. But it’s Lizzy Caplan‘s captivating performance as a former nightclub singer tapped by Sheen to be his assistant who’s at the winning heart of this promising new series.
