The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – December 28, 2012

Hey it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend. With the Christmas holiday having just taken place and with New Year’s Eve barely a week away, you want to keep the good times rolling and we’re here to help you with that! We’re all about the fun and we’ve got you covered. Plus we’ve got some special seasonal weekend beer picks for you too!

So welcome to our Weekend Picks!

This is a first for our weekend picks and unless we’re missing something (let us know if we are,) THERE ARE NO CRAFT BEER FESTIVALS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND…We know, we can’t believe it either. On the weekend in between Christmas and the New Year there are absolutely no craft beer festivals anywhere? What happened to the Brits? They’ll raise a glass at the drop of a dime. What about the Irish? We used to always be able to count on them! What’s with the Germans – nothing from a people who drink pilsners for breakfast? And finally, what’s with us? We’re the biggest disappointment of all! With most of America on holiday break and with just about everybody looking to do anything that doesn’t involve going back to a mall – and there aren’t craft beer festivals, anywhere? People, we can do better.

Luckily some decent movies have just opened….

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – December 28, 2012The biggest movie to have opened recently is (at least for us) Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. We know that some of you might hate his movies and we kind of get that – but the American Craft Beer Crew is way in the bag for this guy! You’ve got to admit that Pulp Fiction is a classic and that Kill Bill II is almost as good. And although his World War II flick Inglorious Bastards is uneven, the first fifteen minutes, which introduced Christoph Waltz to the world, are as good as anything that he’s ever done! So we’re hopeful about Django Unchained. Tarantino’s films can be super violent and we understand that that’s a turn-off for many. He also can be audacious and brilliant, and his genre-bending movies go places other directors wouldn’t dare. Django Unchained is a post-modern period piece that melds an ex-slave’s revenge saga with the spaghetti western that emerged in the mid-1960s. It stars Jamie Foxx (he’s Django), Chistoph Waltz (he’s a bounty hunter) and Leonardo DiCaprio (he’s the evil plantation owner) and we’re totally in!

As far as winter music festivals go it doesn’t get more seasonal or more festive than the Lake Tahoe SnowGlobe. SnowGlobe 2012 combines the world’s best musicians with the world’s best snow conditions. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that offers the ultimate fusion: music and mountains. With multiple stages of world-class musicians, the live music at SnowGlobe includes the likes of DEADMAU5, Wiz Khalifa and Chromeo. It all takes place in South Lake Tahoe and runs December 29th through the 31st.   For more info check out: SnowGlobe 2012

Our Weekend Beer Picks

Portland, Maine-based Shipyard Brewing Company has announced the release of something new for the season. Bourbon Barrel Aged Prelude Special Ale (whew!) is an amped-up winter warmer that’s been barrel-aged for six months and clocks in at 9.5% ABV. Prelude Special Ale is a very limited release and it’s out there now… so act fast!

And while we’re talking winter warmers, don’t forget that Flying Dog Brewery has just released their winter seasonal too. As we’ve referenced before, K-9 is that winter ale and it’s a favorite of ours. It’s an ever-evolving recipe and this year’s release is a 7.4% ABV pleaser that pours dark and is available now in bottles and on draft.
