The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – September 23, 2015
September’s waning and October will soon be here…It’s GABF time already and it doesn’t appear that things will be slowing down any time soon. But no worries – Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in to all the craft beer news that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you absolutely don’t want to miss that.

Border Crossing (Winston-Salem, NC) – Ray Goodrich is friend of ours. He’s also the marketing and communications guy for Foothills Brewing and few people know the North Carolina craft beer scene like he does. He checked in with us yesterday on his way to the GABF, and while we were shooting the shit, he mentioned that the brewery will be making a border crossing soon and that they are planning to begin distributing in Georgia (here’s looking at you Atlanta!) in 2016.
Words To Drink By (Los Angeles, CA) – “We’ve all got to start somewhere, just don’t delude yourself that because you’ve started you deserve to be successful.”
– Bob Lefsetz – the Lefsetz Letter

Craft Beer Becoming An Economic Powerhouse in LA (Los Angeles, CA) – The National University System Institute for Policy Research recently released a study on “The Economic Impact of Craft Breweries in Los Angeles” and to the surprise of hardly no one the news was good. They surveyed 54 breweries, brewpubs and contract brewing businesses and found that their direct economic impact on the region is projected to reach an amazing impact $66-million by the end of the year.
What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all the breweries who ship us beer from time to time. It’s always great to sample the brews that we write about and helps to give us a better feel for what’s happening out there. And last night we hit up a great early-fall seasonal that Starr Hill is returning to the marketplace.First introduced in 2011, Starr Hill Boxcarr Pumpkin Porter is a lightly-spiced 4.7% ABV English-style Brown Porter with pumpkin added to the mash.
