A man in traditional Bavarian attire, including lederhosen and a vest, carries a tray with several full beer steins through a crowded indoor setting, likely an Oktoberfest beer tent. He is wearing glasses and looking towards the right side of the frame. In the background, other people, some also in traditional clothing, are seated at tables.

Carrying beers has long been considered a competitive sport, garnering the attention of many who attend Oktoberfest celebrations…. We’ve that, “Words to Drink By” and more…

German Waiter Fails To Carry Record-Breaking 31 Beers

At a  fair in the Southern German town of Abensberg, waiter Oliver Strümpfel set out to break a world-record when he attempted to successfully carry 31 steins of beer with both his hands across a 40 meter walkway.

Carrying beers has long been considered a competitive sport, garnering the attention of many who attend Oktoberfest celebrations.

Unfortunately Strümpfel didn’t quite nail the 31, but he still holds a record-breaking beer title for successfully carrying  29 beers which he earned back in 2017

As he made his way down three-quarters  40-meter course, he dropped one mug which led to other mugs losing disqualifying amounts of beer just before the finish line. Under the rules, a stein is only counted if it arrives with less than 10% of its beer spilled.

To put it in perspective: each full stein weighs about 2.3 kilos (just over 5 pounds). Multiply that by 29, and you’re looking at more than 70 kilos (154 pounds) of beer and glass.

According to the Drinks Business “Strümpfel has been training for months, hitting the gym regularly since February to build up the strength and stability for the attempt…

“I first did 27, because I wanted to be sure to break the record,” But then I said, let’s add four more.”

But even though 31 proved just out of reach, Strümpfel walked away with the title and the respect of anyone who’s ever tried to carry more than a round of pints without spilling. “Maybe next time I’ll make it,” he added.

East Brothers Beer Opens New San Francisco Taproom

East Brother Beer Company, the Richmond-based brewery known for brewing classic beer styles, announced the upcoming grand opening of its first San Francisco taproom, called “The Rec Room.”

The Rec Room, East Brother Beer’s first taproom location outside its East Bay flagship, is a generous 3,500-square-foot space with both indoor and outdoor seating and 15 taps dedicated to beers that are both timeless and timely.

The opening comes at a time when many craft breweries are facing a variety of challenges, but despite this, East Brother Beer has continued to invest in creating community-focused spaces where people can gather and connect.

“We created the Rec Room to be more than just a place to grab a pint,” said Rob Lightner, co-founder of East Brother Beer Co. “It’s a place for coworkers to enjoy happy hour or for friends and family to gather on the weekend, and it is a reflection of our commitment to providing spaces for the community to come together. We’re super excited to contribute to the ongoing revitalization of downtown San Francisco.”

A public grand opening event will be announced soon.
