Newbies – New Releases That You Want to Look Out For – September 26, 2013

So many beers, So little time…With so many craft breweries, releasing so many beers, we thought it might help to provide a weekly update on all the new beers that are hitting the streets…So welcome to this week’s edition of Newbies – your guide to great new craft beer releases!

ninkasiWinter’s Coming to Ninkasi (Eugene, OR) – Like it or not, winter’s coming and the Ninkasi Brewing Company is getting ready for its inevitable onset with the release of two cold-weather seasonals. Sleigh’r Dark Doüble Alt Ale is their 7.2% malt-forward Doüble Alt Ale brewed in the traditional German Alt way, only darker. Imperiale Imperial Stout is a rich, smooth but warming beer with lots of roasted malt flavor brewed for fires and cold winter months. Look for these awesome winter seasonals to soon become available in bottles and on-draft starting in October.

21st-Amendment-He-Said-Baltic-Pumpkin-Porter-labelHe Said / He Said (San Francisco, CA) – Elysian’s Brewing’s Dick Cantwell and 21st Amendment’s Shaun O’Sullivan have collaborated to produce two different takes on pumpkin beers that are being paired in special 4-packs as part of the brewery’s Insurrection Series. Both beers are named He Said and each beer reflects the other brewer’s vision. Cantwell’s beer is a Baltic Porter brewed with pumpkin, caraway, and cinnamon – it’s the one in the light-colored can. O’Sullivan’s He Said is a White Belgian Tripel brewed with pumpkin, tarragon, and galangal – it’s the one in the dark-colored can. Both versions of He Said clock in at 8.2% ABV and will be packaged together in a pumpkin-colored carrier that features the likenesses of the two brewers.

Breakside Gives Tribute (Portland, OR) – Breakside Brewery has just released a special barrel-aged brew that’s a tribute to the founder and brewmaster of another legendary Portland brewery. Alan from the Wood is a 10.3% ABV dark red ale made with smoked wheat malt and aged for seven months in rye whiskey barrels. It’s named after Hair of the Dog’s Alan Sprints, one of the first craft brewers in the US to focus on making strong ales that were suitable for extended cellaring.

Founders-Sweet-Repute-Barrel-Aged-Wheat-Wine-2Backstage With Founders (Grand Rapids, MI) – Founders Brewing Company will introduce Sweet Repute, a wheat wine aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels, this December to mark the eighth installment in the brewery’s popular Backstage Series. It’s 100% barrel-aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels over the course of sixteen months, then blended using carefully calculated ratios for the ultimate final product. Sweet Repute is a 13% ABV blend that pours bright and has a nutty aroma.

A Time for Jubilation (Boulder, CO) – The Avery Brewing Company is returning its popular winter seasonal to the nation’s thirsty masses. Avery Old Jubilation Ale is their 8.3% ABV winter strong ale that pours deep mahogany and has hints of mocha and toffee. It’s currently available in the Avery Tap Room on draft and in 6-packs, and it’s slated to hit stores by the end of the month.
