Newbies – New Craft Beer Releases That You Want to Look Out For – February 7, 2013

|February 7th, 2013|

So many new craft beers, so little time. With so many craft breweries, releasing so many beers, we thought it might help to provide a weekly update on all the new craft beers that are hitting the streets…So welcome to this week’s edition of Newbies – your guide to great new craft beer releases!

rhizing-bines Craft Beer Super Group to Release Newest Collaboration (Milton, DE) – That would be Rhizing Bines, the second collaboration from two of the biggest names in craft brewing, Sam Calgione’s Dogfish Head and Ken Grossman’s Sierra Nevada. Unlike their first collaborative effort – 2009’s Life & Limb – Rhizing Bines is an East-meets-West Imperial IPA that utilizes Dogfish’s signature continual-hopping process as well as Sierra Nevada’s aroma-boosting Torpedo system technology. Rhizing Bines was brewed at Dogfish Head’s coastal Delaware brewery and it’s expected to hit taps and shelves throughout Dogfish’s 27-state distribution network any day now!

Feels Like An Early Spring (Fort Collins, CO) – It appears that we’re in for an early spring because Dig, New Belgium Brewing’s newest seasonal, is available now. Introduced just last year, Dig Pale Ale is brewed using their vaunted Sorachi Ace Hops, and in keeping with the brewery’s ethos, its name is a nod to community-supported agriculture and sustainable farming. “Dig celebrates the medley of ingredients and hard work necessary to yield the beer and food we love,” said New Belgium brewer Grady Hull. “With Dig in hand, we’d like to toast the farmers and land which make what we do possible.”

Great-Divide- Big-Show-Welcome to the Big Show (Denver, CO) – We don’t normally cover 12-packs in Newbies but maybe we should rethink that, especially when there’s one as cool as Great Divide’s Big Show box set. 12-Packs aren’t usually as aggressive as this. Big Show is a collection of Great Divide Brewing Company’s biggest beers, including their legendary Hades, Yeti, Hercules, and Hibernation Ales. Count us in on this one!

What’s a Troppelbock? (Juneau, AK) – A Troppelbock is Alaskan Brewing’s newest addition to their “special release” Pilot Series that’s scheduled to hit the streets on March 1. It’s also an Imperial Doppelbock brewed in the tradition of Munich brewers from the 14th century…but bigger…much bigger! Alaskan Troppelbock was brewed using glacier-fed water and a blend of German and American hops and it clocks in at an aggressive 10.5% ABV.

Surf’s Up at Great Lakes (Cleveland, OH) – Who knew that Cleveland, Ohio would lay claim to being America’s newest Surf City?! Great Lakes Brewing Company has just announced the release of their new Cleveland surf-inspired beer, Alchemy Hour Double IPA. Named for that perfect time of day, when the waves are breaking just right and it feels like you can ride forever, Alchemy Hour is the first of two seasonals in Great Lake’s 2013 lineup. Look for Alchemy Hour to be hitting retail around February 15.
