Cool Like That Cold IPA (Hood River, OR) – Full Sail Brewing has a new addition to its Strong Current Series which celebrates the brewery’s recreation-rich environment and the pure water that flows from the springs on Mt. Hood that they use to brew beer. Full Sail Cool Like That is a 7% ABV Cold IPA.
So what’s a Cold IPA?
“A Cold IPA is an IPA fermented at lower temperatures than what is normally used to ferment an ale,” WeldWerks Brewing Head Brewer Schwartz told Hop Culture. “Fermenting an IPA at colder temperatures means brewers often use a lager yeast or a combination of a lager and an ale yeast.”
Beer Honey (Brooklyn, NY) – Threes Brewing has just released something special, an oak-aged Bière de Miele brewed with buckwheat hone. Crafted using fifty pounds of buckwheat honey and aged in red wine barrels for more than eight months, Incredulous Laughter is a light, dry, moderately tart beer absent the overpowering sweetness you might expect.
“Biere de Miele, translates from French directly to ‘Honey Beer’ ” Lead Brewer Ben Petersen says. “The locally-sourced honey is completely transformed by the yeast, Brett, and other bacterias in the brew, making Incredulous Laughter a beer whose sum is truly greater than its parts.”
Cosmic Debris (Athens, GA) – Creature Comforts Brewing is renowned for its one-offs and special releases, but they’ve a year round Double IPA that NEVER disappoints. Bursting with Simcoe, Strata, Mosaic, Cascade, and Chinook hops, Creature Comfort’s Cosmik Debris is an intensely hopped 8% ABV India Pale Ale with a bright fruity aroma, firm bitterness, and lighter malt character.
Darkness, Darkness (Indianapolis, IN) – Sun King Brewing has an uber-interesting King’s Reserve limited release, which was recently awarded a Bronze Medal at the 2022 US Open Beer Championship in the ‘Barrel-Aged Fruit Sour’ category. Sun King Midnight Choir is a 6.6% ABV Dark Sour Ale, with tart raspberry and cherry notes and a full-bodied finish.
“It is an incredible honor to win a single medal at the US Open Beer Championship, and to be awarded Grand Champion for the second time is just amazing,” said Dave Colt, co-founder and head brewer at Sun King. “This is a collaborative effort from each department. Whether it be choosing the ingredients, cellaring or quality control, our team works together and plans every aspect of each of our beers.”
