The question isn’t why. The question is why it took so long for a major brewing company to tap into this buzzy option.
Here’s the deal….
Introduced in 1977, Natural Light was Anheuser-Busch’s first reduced-calorie light beer, instantly becoming a hit at colleges across the nation.
In 1995, Natural Ice debuted, featuring a higher ABV that quickly made it America’s best-selling ice beer.
In 2008, Natural Light shocked the world, taking bronze at the World Beer Cup for “American-style light lager”. With that honor in pocket, Natural Light went into orbit in 2011, becoming the first beer in space.
In 2019 Natural Light introduced Naturdays Strawberry Lemonade, a Shandy-like take on Natural Light. We made fun of it at the time, but what do we know, it became a huge hit especially with younger beer consumer.
And now in 2021 the Natural Light has extended its Naturdays brand to include boozy ice pops with an 8% ABV buzz.
And with summertime just around the corner we’ve got to think these alcoholic ice pops are going to take off.
Vice President of US Value Brands at Anheuser-Busch, Daniel Blake, told Food & Wine that these boozy ice pops are one of the of the company’s most unique innovation to date.”
“We’ve seen that our consumer’s drinking preferences are evolving, and they are looking for more variety and fun flavors to fit their different drinking occasions. With this in mind and as we approach summer, Naturdays Frozen Icicles will be the perfect, refreshing treat for those warm weather activities, and will also help introduce new drinkers to the broader Natural Light flavor portfolio,”
Scheduled to hit retail this month, Naturday’s new frozen ice option, comes in two summertime flavors, Strawberry Lemonade and Pineapple Lemonade.
“We want to be the preferred alcohol brand — not just for beer — for drinkers between 21 and 30 years old,” Blake, told CNN Business.
