We’re big fans of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) whose newest “The Good Beer Guide” will feature a foreword by Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson and cover artwork featuring the band’s iconic mascot “Eddie.”

Here’s the deal…

Renowned as the lead singer for the legendary British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson is very much a renaissance man.

In addition to fronting a historic band  that has released 41 albums over its more than four decade run, Dickinson is also an author, public speaker and business entrepreneur.

He’s also active pilot who in 2016 flew the band around the globe on their “Book of Souls” world tour in their own 747.

In addition to all that, Dickinson is a brewer and serious about his beer. In 2013 Dickinson personally designed and developed Trooper, a collaboration between  Iron Maiden and Robinsons Brewery that went on to become an international success.

That beer led to many serious brewing projects including the amped up Trooper 666 with its 6.66% ABV and 2017’s Hallowed a 6% ABV Belgian Ale that took its name from the song Hallowed Be They Name, which first appeared on the band’s bestselling 1982 album The Number of the Beast.

And now Dickinson, who began his career fronting small pub bands in the 1970’s has contributed his talents and the band’s imaging to the 51st edition of CAMRA’s The Good Beer Guide.

Dickinson’s new foreword taps into the cultural tradition of pubs in Britain while highlighting as the Drinks Business notes “the importance of protecting the heritage, charm and welcoming nature of pubs and clubs, and not taking them for granted.”

British pub’s and clubs, launched his career, they’re in his blood, as is his love of beer.

The cover of The Good Beer Guide 2024 also features Eddie, Iron Maiden’s mascot and icon of the band’s many albums as well as the line of Trooper beers. This year, the Trooper Beer Series, which the band does with Robinsons Brewery, is celebrating 10th anniversary.

“We’re honored to have Bruce Dickinson pen the foreword for The Good Beer Guide 2024, said CAMRA National Chairman Nik Antona. “As we enter our second half century of producing the Guide, there is no one better to introduce this year’s edition, and highlight what makes these institutions so worth visiting.”

“The last few years have been an incredibly difficult time for the industry, and we need more support than ever before to keep our nation’s pubs open and thriving. I’d encourage everyone to use this year’s Guide to visit the very best pubs across the UK and support them for generations to come.”
