Festive foods take on new meaning when made with serious beer. And who doesn’t like a traditional Irish dessert made with Guinness, cinnamon baked green apples coated with a crunchy, buttery Irish oat crumble and topped with sea salt whipped cream?

This tasty recipe comes our way from Guinness and it uses the brewery’s classic Guinness Draught, a medium-bodied 4.2% ABV Dry Stout that’s popular around the world.

This hearty Irish treat is easy to make and the beer really adds something special.

So let’s do this!

Guinness Apple Oat Crumble

Ingredients

, Cooking With Beer – Guinness Apple Oat Crumble With Whipped Cream½ cup Rolled oats

¼ All-Purpose Flour

¾ Granulated sugar

1 tbsp Lemon zest

1 tsp Kosher salt

1 cup Toasted walnuts

3/4 Unsalted Irish butter

2 Granny smith apples, cored and diced

2 Golden delicious apples, cored and diced

1 tbsp Corn-starch

3 tbsp Granulated sugar

1⁄2 tsp Kosher salt

3 tbsp Guinness Draught

Directions

Step 1

Combine flour, sugar, zest, salt, cinnamon and walnuts into a food processor. Pulse until combined. Add walnuts and process until chunky but still fairly nutty, about 3 pulses.

Step 2

Add in butter and process until pea sized chunks form. Turn out into bowl and keep very cold until ready to top. Preheat oven to 190°C.

Step 3

Toss apples with sugar, corn-starch, salt and Guinness Draught.

Step 4

Transfer to baking dish, cover with cold crumble and bake for about 45 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let rest for at least 15 min and top with a quenelle of cinnamon whipped cream.
